Canaan Union Depot
The MBTA special is southbound in Canaan, CT on Saturday, July 27 at 1626hrs.
The station was built in 1872, and until 1932, passengers could transfer here to all points in all directions. North-South passenger service ended in 1971.
The station was destroyed by arson on October 12, 2001, but is being restored by the Connecticut Railroad Historical Association.
Not long ago, the diamond here was still in place. For some reason, the Housatonic Railroad has removed it unfortunately ruining a piece of history.
The remnants of the track on the right was once the main line of The Central New England Railroad which went east/west from Springfield, MA and Hartford, CT to Maybrook, NY.
The last remnant of the line survived from here west to Lakeville, CT until 1965 under the New Haven Railroad.
