Freight meets transit in the South Bronx

Freight meets transit in the South Bronx

Former Conrail (Erie N-7D C326 built 1953) caboose NYC 21107 is on the CSX Market Running Track bringing up the rear end of empty flour and refrigerated boxcars from the Hunts Point Produce Market to be returned to Oak Point Yard. At left is Amtrak's Hell Gate Line.

Overhead, an inbound 6 train with Kawasaki built R142A's to Manhattan stops at Whitlock Avenue, the last above ground station before heading into the tunnel.

A scene of the show "Person of Interest" was filmed at the Whitlock Avenue station.

The walkway at right leads to Concrete Plant Park, site of a Concrete Plant until 1987, acquired by NYC in 2000, and opened in September 2009.

Notice the New York City Transit trackworkers observing the CSX train from above, while they conduct their own work for the day.
