ALCo foliage in the Catskills

ALCo foliage in the Catskills

The Westbound Catskill Mountain Railroad train is running alongside New York State Route 28 with a full trainload of tourists on a brisk fall day.

ALCo S-1 407, acquired by CMRR in May 2010, recently given a New York Central inspired livery, is enjoying its retirement life and looking sharp after serving on the Staten Island Railway and Long Island Rail Road.

The Catskill Mountain Railroad, operates in the heart of the Catskills on the New York Central's Catskill Mountain Branch from Kingston to Hurley Mountain and Cold Brook to Phoenicia. The Phoenicia Diner sits directly across Route 28, and Sleepy Hollow Campgrounds, (a Flag Stop) sits at the railroad crossing visible to the east.
