A major milestone of progress

A major milestone of progress

This may seem like just an ALCo at a signaled crossing, but there is much to celebrate about this photograph.

Since the last Conrail freight train ran across US Route 209 on October 2, 1976, this crossing formerly equipped with only crossbucks has not had a revenue train cross it until this past weekend. For many years unused coaches and equipment sat on either side of the crossing as motorists sped by at 55mph.

Beginning Friday, November 21, revenue trains now are able to cross US Route 209 and Hurley Mountain Road before reaching Milepost K6 adjacent to Kenco.

The brand new signals were installed about 5 weeks ago, and are activated by a CMRR volunteer while other volunteers protect the crossing.

New York State DOT has placed warning signs on both approaches to the crossing warning motorists "Railroad Crossing Active", "Prepare to Stop".

A great job by all involved! Looking forward to the westward expansion!
