Moody "Friday the 13th" on Moodna

Moody "Friday the 13th" on Moodna

After sitting dormant on the Port Jervis turntable for 6 years, Erie 833, (former Conrail OCS 4022) was awarded well deserved fame once again appearing at the huge Streamliners at Spencer event in North Carolina.

Behold a sight that was only captured by yours truly on a temperamental afternoon where the sun showed up for just 2 hours after a long drawn out week of cloudy rainy weather:
An original Erie E8A on the Erie, and a ex CNW/NJT F7A in Reading paint proudly crossing the mighty Moodna Viaduct.

Moodna Viaduct is located in the Town of Cornwall, New York. Opened in January 1909, the trestle is 3200 feet long, and 193 feet at its highest point.

The Reading 284 was simply going along for a ride on the Southern Tier because the Norfolk Southern Dover, NJ H-02 crew handling the move would have to deliver the engine to Boonton on Monday, and it was easier to have the engine with them, than having to retrieve it from Croxton again on Monday. So while the ERIE 833 photos that I had hoped to get got blocked by the Reading, you certainly will not see that engine again on Moodna!

Right after this photo, the skies darkened, and monsoons came an hour later. I am very grateful to have been able to pull off this shot!

This move originated in Croxton, New Jersey earlier that afternoon with the following equipment:

NS 3010 (GP 40-2)
NYGL 833 (Erie E8A)
RPCX 284 (Reading F7A)

All equipment listed as NYGL, belongs to the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway.

RPCX 284 belongs to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey URHS at Boonton, NJ. Built in Oct 1949 by EMD for the Chicago & Northwestern and became New Jersey Transit 424 from 1983-1985.
