New York & Atlantic Railway began operation in May 1997, taking over freight operations formerly operated by Long Island Railroad. Since then, NYA has increased business dramatically.
NYA interchanges with CSX Transportation and Providence & Worcester (Stone only) at Fresh Pond Yard in Queens, and NYNJ Rail in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
